Market Bosworth Neighbourhood Forum Questionnaire

Once again many thanks to all the people who completed their Neighbourhood Development Plan. 50% of the questionnaires distributed were returned, which is a fantastic response. We also really appreciated the hundreds of additional comments people took the time to add.

A summary of some of the things you told us:

Two sites to the west of the town were identified as options for development . These were sites on the North and  South of Station Road.

The responses to this question were:

  • 64% identified a preference for the South side i.e Industrial estate side
  • 28% identified a preference for the North side i.e. site of current application in front of golf course
  • The remainder indicated no preference, or, declared both sites unsuitable.

Also, whilst you appreciate many different aspects of the locality, the essential characteristics valued most are about Market Bosworth are the Country Park, separation from surrounding villages (by fields, countryside) and the conservation area and its listed buildings.

You value open green spaces, in particular; the Country Park, Sutton Lane (Gated Road) and the fields either side of it and the Memorial Garden & Parish Field.

Services you use regularly are the newsagents, letter & parcel post and the Post Office. The facilities you use most are the surgery, dentist and parish / church halls. Protecting our pubs from change of use, health service provision to meet an expanding population and provision of high speed broadband is very important to you.

Congestion at school ‘drop‐off’ and ‘pick‐up’ times is the major traffic issue. You would like a pedestrian crossing on Station Road in the Market Place and improved pavements from Station Road (Godson’s Hill) to Bosworth Water Trust. You would prefer the 1st hour of parking in the Rectory Lane car park to be free and parking regulations to be more rigorously enforced. You would like to see more parking spaces close to the shops and services.

You don’t want any new significant building development within the conservation area.

You want any new housing developments to include bungalows and the Parish Council (NDP subcommittee) to allocate for housing.

There is a lot of work still to do in analysing and cross-referencing all the data but some of the basic headline information above is given below for your interest. The information extrapolated from the survey will be used to create the policies for the Neighbourhood Development Plan. This plan will then be put to you the, the electorate at a referendum, hopefully May next year.

Your views are paramount as we need to produce a plan you will accept. The plan will be based on what you have told us. There will be further opportunities to have your say once our first draft plan is available.
